Welcome to The Matthew Gillett Gallery

After years travelling the world, painting, surfing and learning, I returned to the south coast of NSW to pursue my vision to open and curate my own gallery.

The inspiration behind this vision has been to expose the depth of artistic talent that exists in my beloved south coast and to really showcase how beautiful this area is with an inspiring location. I wanted to help these artists exhibit alongside other artist, local and international, and help them further their own artistic ambitions.

What’s funny about Francesa’s great triumph as a sports talker—and for all these years it has been funny—is that he approached his job in what ought to have been the wrong way. Sports talk is a fan’s medium. (It’s right there in the name: WFAN.) Successful hosts are fans themselves, perhaps more informed than the average bleacher creature but no more regal.

Coach Mike Zimmer kept Bridgewater on the bench, maybe just for a quarter or two, while Keenum played. This is one of the things I find compelling about his story. Since Bridgewater suited up and prepared to retake his job that day in Washington, Keenum, in four games, is an 80-percent passer, with nine TDs and two picks, for a passer rating of 124.1. Never in his pedestrian five-year career has Keenum had this kind of run, and he’s done it with the hot breath of Bridgewater on his neck.

A trend is not synonymous with acceptance; many journalists still recoil from the label homer.

Last week writers covering the NHL’s Predators took exception to a tweet from the Vegas Golden Knights’ official team account that claimed reporters applauded after a Nashville goal. The tweet was deleted, and the team issued an apology, but the episode launched a brief public debate about credibility and sensitivity to professionalism that would have been unnecessary a generation ago.

“Discontinuing conversations with Austin is not possible at this time.”

Among the several twists and turns in an ever-changing story was a meeting last month between Precourt, Garber and Columbus officials in New York City. Several days later, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther wrote an open letter emphasizing the fact that potential solutions in the Ohio capital aren’t “achievable if we continue to be pitted against another city. We ask you to reconsider working exclusively and collaboratively with us to advance our mutual interest.”

On Friday in Toronto, Garber said Precourt isn’t interesting in selling the Crew and isn’t going to stop pursuing a stadium solution in Austin. Columbus will have to be willing to negotiate while Precourt is on “parallel paths,” Garber said.

“So the ball is in the city’s court,” the commissioner added.

Garber defended Precourt and the previous owners, the Hunt family, and said the Columbus market has been having “issues … almost since the beginning.”

The Crew have been “struggling to resonate” despite more than $200 million in investment from the Hunts and nearly $40 million by Precourt, Garber claimed.

“We don’t think it’s an issue of ownership. Anthony’s done a very good job. He’s invested a lot of money. He’s not getting enough credit for that. He’s had one of the more successful teams on the field,” Garber said. “You have to be strong and viable with every team if you’re going to continue to grow. As hard as it is—and it’s not fun—and I will say I feel for the fans in that market, I am fully understanding of the challenges they see and how disappointed they are. But we need to find a way to ensure that team can be an MLS 2.0 team.”

Judging by the emotion he displayed after the fact, Thomas Davis knew.

The Panthers linebacker knew he had just delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit when he blindside-blocked Packers wide receiver Davante Adams during a Colin Jones interception return early in the third quarter of the Panthers’ 31-24 win over the Packers on Sunday. He knew his hit was dangerous, especially on a player like Adams, who went through concussion protocol after a brutal hit against the Bears earlier this season. He knew an NFL-imposed fine likely would be coming his way. A suspension is possible, too.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers after the game was asked about Davis’ hit, which the NFL will review. He paused before answering, seemingly choosing his words carefully.

“I think it was an unnecessary hit,” Rodgers said. “Unfortunately (if) I throw a better ball that situation doesn’t happen.

“He’s a repeat offender, so I’m sure the league will deal with him according to that.”

Indeed, Davis was fined $48,620 earlier this season for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Buccaneers wide receiver Adam Humphries. Including that amount, Davis has been fined a total of $122,184 for six separate incidents throughout his 12-year career. He has not been suspended for an illegal hit.

Thompson, a major contributor on the Cavs’ past three NBA Finals teams, said there is urgency in the group.

“We hate losing and we’re guys that we take it to the chin, and obviously we’re pissed off and angry about it,” Thompson said. “But that means we just try to get better. It was a tough, rough trip for us, but we’re going home, playing against Portland on a back-to-back. We’ve got to protect home. And everyone says teams definitely come out a little sluggish, first game off a West Coast trip. But we can’t afford to have that, especially against a Portland team that likes to score a lot of points.”

Before James shifted his focus to the Blazers and 2018, there was a birthday cake in the cubby hole above his locker to enjoy and a couple of more hours to celebrate turning 33, which Jazz fans helped him with all game long through signs and even a “Happy Birthday” serenade.

Philadelphia played without Embiid, their star center, who flew directly from Portland to Phoenix, where the team will join him for Sunday’s game. Embiid is averaging 24 points and 11 rebounds per game. The 76ers are 2-7 when he does not play.

“To get one, on the road, without Joe, is a credit to a team effort,” Philadelphia coach Brett Brown said.

Bayless did his part in Embiid’s absence. He scored all of his points in a span of 3:56, when the Sixers took the lead for good.

“It was huge,” guard Ben Simmons said. “He played really well and that’s exactly what we need from guys like that — hit shots.”

Jamal Murray led Denver with 31 points and had eight rebounds; Nikola Jokic had 19 points, 13 rebounds and six assists; and Gary Harris had 17 points.astros_026

Bruce Arians’ Carson Palmer-or-bust plan leaves Cardinals busted at QB

The Cardinals might also make their move in the draft. They’re at 15th overall now. They could very well move up, or down, for who they think is right. The Baker Mayfield talk began within seconds of the ending of the Rose Bowl on Monday, the same day Arians walked away. No position in the draft is harder to predict, though.

It all circles back, though, to the Cardinals being a contender everywhere else except at the most important position.

However, Gettleman – for now at least – appears intent on having success with Eli Manning at quarterback. That ship sailed in 2017 as Manning declined and the Giants seemingly sticking with him makes what would be the top job on the market slightly less attractive.

“Yeah, we lost our horse,” Paul said.

Said forward Trevor Ariza: “If James misses time, it is going to be tough. Since I have been here, he’s been here, he has been on the court, he has been available. So for him to have to miss time, it would definitely be tough, definitely be an adjustment.”

Golden Knights get 3 quick goals in 2nd to beat Stars 5-3

In their first NHL season, the Vegas Golden Knights are getting big goals from players up and down the roster.

If the New Jersey Devils are to break out of their recent funk, they’ll have to do so against the hottest team in the NHL when they host the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

The Kings (20-8-3) are in the midst of a league-best eight-game winning streak. After missing the playoffs last season, the Kings sit atop the Pacific Division with 43 points, and their plus-29-goal differential is second-best in the NHL.

Tuesday’s contest marks the first of a four-game East Coast road trip for the Kings that is not necessarily an advantage for New Jersey (16-9-4) since Los Angeles is 10-3-1 on the road and the Devils are only 6-5-2 at The Rock.

“It really doesn’t matter what we’ve done to this point,” Kings coach John Stevens told the team’s website following practice on Monday. “This is an important trip to continue to get points and continue to try and play well and build our team game.”

Apple, the 10th overall pick last year, was inactive for the fourth straight game. He responded to a tweet asking why he wasn’t playing with “I’m too healthy” and an emoji of a man with his hands in the air. He also retweeted a tweet that praised Cowboys running back Rod Smith for icing the Giants with an 81-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.

Apple and Smith both went to Ohio State.

“I had a conversation with Eli about that. I was disappointed,” interim coach Steve Spagnuolo said. “I told him I was disappointed. We’ll decide exactly what we do with it. He apologized. We move on from that.”mariners_755

Point scores in OT, Lightning beat Jets 4-3

Brayden Point put the exclamation point on the Tampa Bay Lightning’s success stretch at home.

Point scored 36 seconds into overtime and the Lightning completed a perfect four-game homestand with a 4-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night.

“He’s been an instrumental player all year long,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said.

Connor made it 2-2 on his 21st birthday just 1:23 later.

Copp opened the scoring 1:23 into the first to end a 12-game goal drought. Gourde tied it during a power play with 1:03 left in the period.

Tampa Bay’s league-best power-play unit has a goal in nine straight games, one away from tying the franchise record.

Cedric Paquette appeared to put Tampa Bay up 2-1 12 minutes into the second but the goal was disallowed after a video review prompted by Winnipeg challenge determined that Chris Kunitz interfered with Hellebuyck.

Paquette has not scored a goal in his last 32 games.

Jets D Dustin Byfuglien left with an injury. Teammate Tyler Myers missed part of the second after being struck on the ankle area by the puck but ended up playing 25 minutes. … Sergachev has seven goals and 20 points in 29 games. … Jets G Steve Mason (concussion) took part in the morning skate. … Lightning D Jake Dotchin returned after sitting out eight consecutive games with an undisclosed injury. … Jets RW Blake Wheeler got his 30th assist on Connors’ goal. He has eight assists and 10 points during a five-game point streak.

Hunt, defense spur Chiefs to 26-15 victory over Raiders

LeSean McCoy scored on a 21-yard run with 1:33 left in overtime to secure the Buffalo Bills’ 13-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts in a wintry, white-out setting best suited for snow shoes and sled dogs.

The Raiders also were missing two defensive starters in CB David Amerson (foot sprain) and LB Cory James (knee), while DE Mario Edwards Jr. (ankle) left early in the second quarter and TE Clive Walford went down in the fourth. The Chiefs missed starting C Mitch Morse with a sprained foot.

Then later on in the second quarter, Ngakoue and Campbell showed once again why teamwork makes the dream work on Jacksonville’s defensive line. The Browns were facing a third-and-10 at their own 40-yard line.

Campbell was lined up as the three technique, on the outside shoulder of Cleveland left guard Joel Bitonio, while Ngakoue was once again lined up in a wide five across from Drango.

Saints coach Sean Payton queried the media.

“Seriously, speak up,” Payton said. “What do you guys think, why do you think there were so many injuries tonight?”

The Advocate noted that several of the injured players already were battling nagging ailments that normally would’ve had time to heal more thoroughly before a next game.

Not with this short week, Vaccaro said.

“When you play three days later, three days after a tough game against Carolina, it started swelling up on me and got real sore,” the safety said of his injured groin. “It just got to the point where I started feeling my adductor (muscle). I had to make a decision, do I want to stay in there and potentially hurt it again, or do I want get rested up play next week against the Jets?”

Goals by Marchand, DeBrusk lead Bruins past Islanders 3-1

The best chances of a scoreless first came when Backes had a pair of bids from the edge of the crease seconds apart. Halak flashed his left pad to stop both.

“It is fun when we get to play together, it (had been) a while,” Nylander told TSN following the team’s win over the Oilers. “I think it started pretty good. In the third period we were hemmed into our D-zone a lot, so it was a tough third period, but we kept it out of the net and (McElhinney) played amazing so that helps for sure.”

Texans 7, Ravens 0 The Texans got deep into scoring position, thanks to big passes from Savage to DeAndre Hopkins and Bruce Ellington. Hopkins later drew pass interference on Brandon Carr, setting up Houston at the 4-yard line. Lamar Miller punched it in to get the Texans on the board.

The Ravens went three-and-out after Jadeveon Clowney made his presence felt, forcing Flacco into a bad pass on third down.

“Really, there are two ways to look at this thing,” Tomlin said in his postgame press conference, via the team’s website. “One way we will probably look at it (Sunday), we persevered in the face of adversity. We made necessary plays. We overcame adversity. Big plays by them, turnovers by us and all of those things. We didn’t blink. We stayed together and made the necessary plays to win.

“(Monday) when we evaluate it, when we get into the evaluation phase of it in terms of working to get better for our next opportunity, obviously we did things that made it difficult to win. … Some of those things have been issues for us in multiple games, particularly the big plays of late, so obviously that has to stop (immediately). We’ll work at it, but we’ll work at it being 9-2 and that’s a beautiful thing.”

The Steelers (9-2) will have back-to-back division rival games against the Bengals (5-6) and Ravens (5-5) before hosting the Patriots (9-2) in Week 15.mariners_780
